This article concerns the postdoctoral research carried out at the University of Ioannina and the Department of Music Studies, with a scholarship from the European Union and the Greek State Scholarship Foundation, formally from January 2020 to December 2021. The main goal of the research program is to highlight a distinct and unexplored aspect of the piano: its role outside its usual context, that is, what is usually called “classical music”. The research program focuses on the discography found in a variety of musical realities, within a broad geographical span: Eastern Europe, the Balkans, the Eastern Mediterranean, North Africa, the Middle East.
